You know what to do. Please post your questions about the text your leaders, Cassidy and Yover, sent you to this post no later than 7pm on Friday, April 24, 2015.
Reflecting on our class and personal goals from the previous Socratic Seminar, please note that your questions should be thought provoking. With that said, as you refine the questions you create, you don't have to have a lot of convoluted words in your question, or create a follow up question to your first question for it to be high level quality. You only need ONE question that is clear and of course deep. Please DO NOT write two questions as one. Those students who have done that will loose points.
When a question that is presented by the leaders has to be translated, rephrased and reworded several times, that means that you put too many words and/or ideas into one question. Keep it clean, simple, DEEP and to the point.
Reminder: Also, we need to make sure that you speak loudly, clearly and always give eye contact to the person you are responding to. Always be ready with a response (i.e. question format, clarity of a previous statement, summarizing what someone else said, clearing up misconceptions, building on someone else's ideas/thoughts, analyzing/critiquing/incorporating evidence from the text, etc.) when someone calls on you. Please note that I may add another level to the circle at the next meeting. Lastly, remember to select a new partner for Monday.
Happy Thinking! :)

Hello All,

Socratic Seminar Student Generated Discussion Questions Due 4.10.15 by 7pm
Hello 421,
Please post your thought provoking questions on this site by Friday, April 10, 2015 no later than 7pm.
Reflecting on some of the questions from the last seminar, please make sure that your questions are not wordy and compacted. However, the question should be by no means easy, it should still be complex in that it requires deep thinking on part of the participant.
Happy Posting!

Book Review Blog # 2 - Due by 7pm 11.3.14
Hello All,
You can now post a blog response for the next book review which is based on the novel Inside Out and Back Again OR the biography A Child Called It. Choose a different question from the blog syllabus that was provided to you in class.
Please remember that your blog response should follow the quick write protocol we use in class and your response to another student should be no longer than 1 to 2 sentences. Although it is a short response to another student, it should be thoughtful and insightful. A response such as "Good job! Where did you get that book? Why did you like that book/character?" is not a thoughtful or insightful response to another student. A response that elicits deeper thought into the book a student has read or responding in a way that has involved some online research about the author or the issues/themes/topics presented in the book is considered highly thought provoking and intellectual.
